The Uzunkopru Train Station is the railway station of TCDD – Turkish State Railways
located in Uzunkopru Municipality, District of Edirne. In the past, the products grown in the
villages of Uzunkopru, Ipsala, Kesan and Malkara were sent to Istanbul by train, which was
the capital then and it was possible easily to market and bring the goods there. The station was
built on 4 April 1873 by the Rumelian Railway (CO) Company as part of the Rumelian
Railway line. The historical station building’s architecture is attracting the interest of the
visitors- it is made by brickwork, covered with wooden coating instead of plaster.
The Uzunkopru train station has played a great role throughout the history connecting Istanbul
to Europe and it became a very important transportation point in Çanakkale Wars (Gallipoli
campaign). Orient Express Railway tours, which started in 1883, also passed through
Uzunkopru. The station also served the Friendship Express operating between Istanbul -
Thessaloniki until February 2011.

arrival of the spring. Spring is also a symbol of abundance, fertility, getting rid of troubles and
diseases. With this purpose the local people are celebrating the Dallık festival by having fun

when a young boy wants to get married, the parents of the bride put the condition each year
that the groom has to take their daughter to this festival.

Muradiye Mosque was built in the town of Uzunkopru 573 years ago by Sultan II. Murat. It is
the largest of the Ottoman cradle covered mosques. On the right front corner of the Muradiye
Mosque, there is a single balcony minaret made of cut stone and a roof bar. The fountain,
similar to the Otağ tent, is covered with a pyramid-shaped cone, and its upper roof is located
in the courtyard of the mosque in the shape of an octagonal prism.

Uzunköprü stone bridge on the Ergene River is the longest and only stone bridge in the world
connecting Anatolia and the Balkans. The bridge was built between 1426 and 1443 by head
architect Muslihiddin on the orders of Ottoman Sultan Murad II. The bridge is approximately
1306,20 meters long, 6.80 meters wide and was built at 172 water arches.
The bridge, which was made to overcome the natural Ergene River barrier, was built with cut
stones obtained from the stone quarries in the near villages on previously made wooden
bridges which were destroyed by the river waters.

and lamb 'tandır' are among the most important dishes specialties of the region.

sugar paste with walnut, rice pudding are some of them. Uzunkopru is also famous with its ice
cream. One of the famous ice cream places is Cazgır ice-cream. It is famous with its melon
ice cream and is operating in Uzunkopru since 1934. Small restaurants in Yeniköy
neighborhood draw attention with their viticulture culture, with appetizers consisting of
homemade wine and locally produced vegetables. Yeniköy neighborhood restaurants are
famous with the grilled meat dishes, and with lamb ‘tandır’, especially in the spring. Foods
that cannot be found elsewhere, such as catfish and frog legs, can also be tasted in Yeniköy.

The public library is located in Atatürk Square on Atalar street in the center of Uzunkopru. It
was built in 1914 as a Turkish Center. It was restored with the materials brought from
Marseille in 1928 with the contributions of District Governor Reşit Bey and the local people,
and reopened on October 29 at the Celebrations relating to the Republic Day in Turkey. It was
used as the Community Center until 1951. With the closure of the Community Centers, all the
items in it and 3000 books were transferred to the State Treasury. The building, which was
not used until 1968, has been serving as the District Public Library since 2011. The historical
two-floor building is built in classical Turkish style.

need to reach the Istanbul Airport. From here you have a distance of approximately 230 km
to the center of Edirne. You can reach Uzunkopru from the center of Edirne by bus, after a 64
km journey. Travel from Istanbul Airport to Uzunkopru takes nearly 3 - 3,5 hours.
If you want to travel by bus, many companies from 15 Temmuz Şehitler Bus Terminal in
Istanbul organize bus transportation to Edirne. After nearly 2 hours, you will reach Edirne.
Various companies have bus line services from Edirne to Uzunkopru. From Ankara the
average distance to Uzunkopru is 750 km and from İzmir 570 km to Uzunkopru.
For those that want to travel by car from Dimitrovgrad to Uzunkopru; first you have to follow
the rout of Dimitar Blagoev Blvd., 3 Mart Blvd. 3rd Mart and 5th Mart and 6 km to follow the
Maritza highway. E80 leading to goal 49 minutes (75,7 km) Eskidaın. In order to head to
goal Turkey, you have to follow the rout of European highway /O-3/ E 80 which is 15min.
(11km) Leave of European highway /O-3/ E 80. In the crossroad near to Havsa, take the road
of D100 Edirne- Canakkale road; Uzunkopru is located on this road and you can get there
after 60 km from the crossroad.

Gazi (War Veteran) Turhan Bey Mausoleum is a mosque and mausoleum built for Gazi
Turhan Bey during the II. Murat and Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror period. He is II. Murat's
son-in-law and Conqueror Sultan Mehmet's brother-in-law.
Gazi Turhan Bey showed great success in the 2nd Kosovo and Varna Wars and played
an active role in the placement of Turkmen tribes to the conquered places in the Balkans. Gazi
Turhan is also the person whom prevented the aid coming from Europe during the conquest of Istanbul.Although the date of birth and death is not exactly known, it is known that he died in
the middle of 1456 and was buried in the Mausoleum built for him in Kırkkavak Village.
Due to his important activities, the Kırkkavak village which is 8 km away from
Uzunköprü was given to Gazi Turhan Bey as a reward in 1454 and there he built a large
complex. Evliya Çelebi – famous traveler visited this village in 1658 and he mentioned in his
Travelogue describing a mosque, a bath and caravanserai built there. Today, only the mosque
and its Mausoleum are left from this complex.
Gazi Mr.Turhan Mosque and Mausoleum have structurally the same characteristics as
the contemporary mausoleums and mosques. The mosque of the complex, which is very
simple in terms of decoration, was built with rubble stones and bricks, and its mausoleum was
built with a cut stone square plan and covered with a lead-covered dome. The mosque, which
has a single-balcony minaret, also has a wooden congregation porch. Gazi Mr. Turhan
mosque and mausoleum were opened to visitors in 2008.
