Giordano Bruno People's Astronomical Observatory and Planetarium
People's Astronomical Observatory and Planetarium "Giordano Bruno" - The National Astronomical Observatory and the Giordano Bruno Planetarium are officially opened on May 24, 1962. The planetarium is the first in Bulgaria and on The Balkan Peninsula, and the Astronomical Observatory the second in the country. A year earlier, NAO was opened in the city of Stara Zagora. The complex is located in NY Vaptsarov Park and includes a star hall with 60 seats, building with offices and classrooms, observation pavilion with two telescopes. The projector of the planetarium is designed and manufactured by the then chief architect of the city - Milko Milanov. In front of the central one building is a monument to the Italian philosopher Giordano Bruno, whose the name is the whole complex. The author is the sculptor Marin Uzunov. In the yard of The complex is also home to the first seismic station built outside Sofia at the Geophysical Institute of BAS.
